CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Easter Seals P.E.I. ambassador will kick off the organization’s school tour on April 20.
The tour will visit all 59 schools in the province’s Public Schools Branch and French language school board, April 20-27.
This year’s tour ambassador is 10-year-old Vaeda Matheson, said Easter Seals P.E.I. executive director Kelly Mullaly.
“Although (Vaeda) was appointed back in December 2019 and attended just a handful of official events, once the pandemic hit we had no choice but to cancel the tour in 2020 and again in 2021,” said Mullaly. “Vaeda has the distinction of being the only ambassador in Canada who’s held the role for three years.”

Vaeda, a Grade 5 student at West Kent Elementary School in Charlottetown, will meet with cohorts of staff and students at each of the schools on the tour, sharing her message and collecting donations raised by students to help support programs that help improve the lives of Islanders living with disabilities.
Tour co-ordinator Janice Blacquiere said the event is the highlight of her year.
“Every school we visit is unique, but we all share the same excitement about what we can accomplish when we share a goal to celebrate our differences and help one another in whatever way we can,” said Blacquiere.
Tour updates will be shared on the Easter Seals P.E.I.’s social media pages or its website at eastersealspei.org.
